Temple of the Six Banyan Trees
The illustrious Temple of the Six Banyan Trees, or Liurong Temple, is a beacon of history and spirituality in Guangzhou. Founded in AD 537 and housing the 57-meter high Flower Pagoda, reconstructed in 1097, this temple is not only a place of worship but also an architectural marvel. Climbing the pagoda's seventeen levels reveals breathtaking mezzanine viewpoints and nine external balconies that invite visitors to appreciate panoramic views of the city.
Linger beneath the pagoda to marvel at the delicate wooden carvings adorning the eaves, or venture inside to witness the top floor's magnificent bronze pillar, which is emblazoned with 1,000 depictions of Buddhist figures. The Grand Hall is yet another treasure trove, showcasing three imposing six-meter brass buddhas crafted in the 17th century.
Exploring the temple grounds further, one will come across numerous Buddhist supply shops, a testament to the temple's spiritual influence. These shops offer an assortment of devotional items, from monks' robes to bells and a variety of Buddha statues.
