Welcome Back to China: Border Restrictions Lifted
Aligning with recent government announcements, China has restarted issuing all categories of visas to foreigners as of March 15, 2023. Travelers with multi-year visas procured prior to March 28, 2020—the day China's borders were sealed to most foreign guests—are once again welcome to step foot in the country, provided their visas remain valid. The convenience of visa-free travel is also making a comeback for eligible international visitors.
Effective April 29, 2023, a significant procedural change eases the burden for incoming travelers: the requirement to present a negative COVID-19 test prior to boarding a flight to China has been dissolved. Now, a mere quick antigen self-test within a 48-hour window before departure suffices.
As such, the nation is truly reopening its doors. The embrace of global tourists marks a milestone in China's recovery, signifying a complete revival of its tourism sector post-pandemic.
